Turtle Island Sports Council is a non-profit society that was established in 2025 to unite communities across Alberta and Turtle Island, using football as a vehicle for life skills, community pride, and youth opportunity. Guided by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, our mission focuses on four core values:

Wellness: Sport as Medicine

Football is more than a game; it is a tool for healing and growth. We use the field to foster resiliency, trust, and accountability, treating physical activity as a vital pathway to mental and emotional health. 

Identity: Cultural Integrity

Culture is our heartbeat. We integrate traditional ceremonies, teachings, and Knowledge Keepers into our programming, ensuring every athlete strengthens their sense of pride, belonging, and connection to Indigenous history. 

Empowerment: Leadership & Education 

We define success by the doors we open. By linking football to academic achievement, graduation, and mentorship, we empower youth to become leaders in their schools and role models within their communities. 

Community: Unity & Advocacy 

We are stronger together. Guided by the TRC Calls to Action, we unite communities across Turtle Island to provide a safe space of belonging while advocating for critical issues like Treaty rights and MMIWG awareness.

Our Team Alberta Indigenous Football Team recently went undefeated to capture the 2026 Football Alberta U19 Indigenous Cup Championship in Regina. To honor their dedication, perseverance, and cultural pride, our goal is to present every player and coach with a custom championship ring—a lifelong symbol of their achievements both on and off the field.

What the Ring Represents

Each ring tells the story of our people and our journey. The Medicine Wheel represents balance in body, mind, emotion, and spirit. 'Pile of Bones' honours the historic Indigenous name of present-day Regina, where the championship was won. The buffalo imagery reflects the strength, resilience, and teachings of our ancestors. The inside engraving, 'You Can Count On Me,' represents the promise every player made to their teammates, families, and communities. Our team values—Family for Life, Effort Never Dies, and Football is Medicine—are carried by every athlete long after the final whistle.

For many of these athletes, this will be the first championship ring they have ever earned. It is more than jewelry—it is a symbol of perseverance, cultural pride, leadership, and hope that will be passed down for generations.
